Shooting at Howe Park Results in Four Victims Wounded in Sacramento County's Arden-Arcade Neighborhood

Law enforcement in Sacramento are working a shooting that broke out on the evening of April Sacramento park shooting 2026 18 at the Howe Community Park area at the moment deputies were clearing an unauthorized event of multiple hundreds of people.

How It Started

Officers from the Sacramento County Sheriff's Office were first dispatched to the park at about 6:30 in the evening after being notified of individuals who may have had concealed firearms. After that, a second caller reported about a possible fight unfolding inside the park.

An overhead unit was sent to survey the area but could not confirm any ongoing fight. Regardless, it became clear that an enormous crowd had gathered without authorization without any permit or approval.

When the Shots Rang Out

Sacramento County Sheriff's deputies began the process of clearing the park by encircling the gathering and issuing commands over loudspeakers instructing the crowd to leave immediately. Approximately 15 minutes were allowed for people to comply.

Just as the crowd began to move that 20 to 25 rounds of ammunition were discharged. The shots triggered a stampede. Sacramento County Sheriff's deputies wasted no time in looking for those injured.

Those Who Were Hit

When the dust settled, four people were found to have been shot. Those injured — consisting of one woman and three men each reported to be in their mid to late twenties — were brought to area medical facilities. Emergency physicians reported that two were treated for serious injuries, one of the four had moderate gunshot wounds, and one person's injuries were considered minor. Fortunately, all four victims survived and were stable.

Sacramento fire crews assisted at the location and aided in treating those with gunshot wounds at the park.

The Investigation

The primary shooting scene appears to have occurred on Cottage Way near the Home Depot store at the 2200 block of Howe Avenue. CSI personnel discovered more spent casings on Cottage Way. Bullet holes were also found in the iron fence bordering the nearby Home Depot. These findings indicated that a shooter had been shooting in a southerly direction from the Cottage Way area targeting the Home Depot building and parking lot. That Home Depot location was temporarily locked down for a period of time. Crime scene technicians and detectives kept processing evidence through the early morning hours.

Arrests Made

Information relayed over scanner radio traffic revealed that a suspect Kia was intercepted in nearby Solano County. Four occupants were stopped and detained. Deputies were traveling to Solano County to collect the individuals for questioning. Video reviewed at the scene confirmed that two separate shooters participated in the incident.
